Ueckermünde Zoo had applied for support from the fund of the program "Europäische territoriale Zusammenarbeit" - "Grenzübergreifende Zusammenarbeit" (European territoral cooperation - crossborder cooperation) between Mecklenburg-Vorpommern/Brandenburg and Poland (Zachodniopomorskie) 2007 - 2013.

On 8 December 2009 the commission recommended the German-Polish project "Life at the Szczecin Bay and in the heath of ueckermünde, environmental education and histroy".

Summary:

The establishment of a common German-Polish centre for environmental education with locations in Zalesie, Eggesin, and in Ueckermünde zoo. Topics will be environmenatl education, development of the landscape during the ice age, culture and history as well as conservation, the cooperation between the neighbouring countries, and tourism.
